The Quiet Paradox of Aging

01/11/2026

No matter how much our physical appearance changes as we get older, somewhere deep inside, we continue to feel remarkably young.

Perhaps that is one of the great contradictions of ageing: our bodies move steadily through time, while our emotional world often remains suspended in an earlier light.

Somewhere within many of us lives a 23-year-old woman, still carrying the same needs, aspirations and dreams—the same hunger to be seen, to be loved, to become. Perhaps this is why growing older can feel so disorienting, and at times, so profoundly unfair. It is a quiet kind of suffering, often carried in silence.

Because growing older should not mean growing further away from who we are inside. It should mean learning to hold that young self more tenderly, carrying her forward rather than leaving her behind.
