Maria must be somewhere in her seventies. She lay motionless in her hospital bed, her body still, yet her spirit unmistakably bright. A former teacher, she spoke about her condition with a calm openness, free from anger, sadness, fear, or anxiety.

One sentence stayed with me. Tapping gently at her temple, she said, "My healthy organ is up here." She went on to explain that there is no perfect stage in life—only trade-offs we learn to live with.

I left her room with an unexpected sense of comfort. Despite her fragile physical state, she carries a steady focus and an emotional richness that feels deeply grounding. Her organ of emotional balance remains fully intact.
