The anguish on this father's face stopped me in my tracks, hoping to offer some comfort and understanding. I had previously decided not to focus on pediatrics and family care, knowing how how hard it can be to face parents who are scared, emotionally overwhelmed and distressed. Yet, in that moment, I couldn't ignore his pain.

This young father was frustrated and heartbroken by the lack of communication from the medical team about his two-year-old daughter's condition. He longed to be heard and reassured—to feel that his fears and questions mattered. Standing with him, listening, and offering a few words of comfort felt profoundly meaningful. I was grateful to be there for him in that moment of despair. It was a small gesture, but it helped to ease the moment.
